Calypso Earrings

Pelican House

Named after the sea nymph of Greek mythology, and Jaques Cousteau's famous exploration vessel, the Calypso. There is also a light purple orchid of this name.
  • Solid brass with a shiny hammered finish, recycled and sourced from the USA
  • 14K gold fill 20 gauge ear wires
  • Accented with a fair trade African glass powder bead
  • Plastic-free packaging

These African powder glass beads are made by crushing recycled glass to a fine powder and heating it until it fuses together. The glass powder is poured into clay molds, with a cassava leaf stem used to make the hole. They are then baked in an oven and the glass fuses as the cassava stem burns up. The result is a beautiful bead with a rough sea glass texture.

Brass is very durable, but patinas very easily, so we recommend keeping it out of the water. Polish with a jewelry polishing cloth before each wear to bring back it's bright golden luster.
